Why Electric Caddys??

Walking has made a comeback in golf in the US. Traditionally preferred since golf's origins in Scotland, it declined as courses spread out and riding carts became common. However, COVID-19 encouraged social distancing, bringing walking back into vogue. While I usually prefer walking, Arizona's summer heat often necessitates carts. Still, many desert courses cater to walkers. Fall and winter are ideal for enjoying the Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy, which eases the 5-mile trek of an 18-hole course. Walking enhances my game by allowing a steady rhythm, giving me time to think between shots, and with GPS, I have everything I need right at hand.

Battery Life

The Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy features a 3.5″ GPS screen and boasts one of the best batteries available. It easily powers the cart for 36 holes and runs the GPS touchscreen, with enough charge left to power your phone. The 28v battery lasts beyond 36 holes; I charged it once on day one and only recharged it once since for safety. The battery fits into the cart's frame and connects directly to the motors, allowing for charging in or out of the cart.

On-Course Function

The Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy is expertly designed. A key improvement from the previous model is the front wheels, which now have tension to keep them mostly straight until you steer, enhancing functionality and precision. The rear wheels, equipped with motors, allow for ‘skid’ steering by spinning one wheel faster to turn. A small fourth wheel at the back prevents wheelies on hills and during quick starts, making the cart incredibly stable. To avoid tipping, drive carefully on hills and grab the handle if it starts to tip.

Driving via Remote

The Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy excels in its remote functionality. While there's a speed control dial and button on the handlebar, I prefer the remote for its ease of use. The joystick buttons allow you to move the cart forward, backward, left, or right, with the forward button acting as an on switch rather than an accelerator. You need to hold the reverse button to move backward. The left and right buttons work while in motion or stationary, allowing for precise movements or quick 360-degree turns. Speed can be adjusted by tapping the forward button, with levels ranging from 1 (barely moving) to 9 (a jog). I typically set the cart to speeds 4 or 5 for a brisk walk.

The Addition of GPS

The Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy sets a new standard with its touchscreen GPS on the handle. The bright, large screen is user-friendly and updates yardages as you move. It automatically advances to the next hole, keeps score, and allows you to adjust the flag's position on the green for precise distance measurements. However, I wish it displayed the hole shape from the tee box, as it only shows hazard locations. Additionally, it features a USB port for phone charging and Bluetooth connectivity for updates.

Size and Weight

The Motocaddy M7 GPS Remote Electric Caddy folds up compactly enough to fit in the back of almost any car. I drive a MINI Countryman and it fits ideal with a seat down in the back. This allows for space for my bag too. The cart weighs around 25lbs. It isn’t light nor super easy to lift, but most golfers can accomplish this motion before and after their rounds. It unfolds and folds with 2 levers; one on the lower section and one on the upper.
